March is Women’s History Month. To celebrate at our school we are reading quotes daily to bring presence on Women’s History. Use these quotes and very short bios to read at your school’s daily announcements.

Women’s History Month Quotes and Bios

Day 1

Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her quote is, “At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.”

Day 2

Kron Moore, an actress and singer, “Women’s History Month pays homage to the trailblazers before us, builds hope and inspiration to us and offers an example of pride and excellence for younger generations.”

Day 3

Coretta Scott King, an American author, activist, and civil rights leader who was married to Martin Luther King Jr. She was an advocate for African American equality and was a leader for the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Her quote is, “Women, if the soul of the nation is to be saved, I believe you must become its soul.”

Day 4

Oprah Winfrey, an American talk show host, television producer, actress, author, and philanthropist. Her quote is, “Know what sparks the light in you so that you, in your own way, can illuminate the world.”

Day 5

Kamala Harris, an American politician and attorney who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Her quote is, “Dream with ambition, lead with conviction… And we will applaud you every step of the way.”

Day 6

Mindy Kaling, is an American actress, comedian, screenwriter and producer, her quote is, “If you don’t see a clear path for what you want, sometimes you have to make it yourself.”

Day 7

Eleanor Roosevelt, the former first lady of the United States from 1933 to 1945, during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office, making her the longest serving first lady of the United States. Her quote is, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Day 8

Michelle Obama, an American attorney and author who served as the first lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 as the wife of President Barack Obama. She was the first African-American woman to serve in this position. Her quote is, “If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s the power of using your voice.”

Day 9

Melinda Gates, an American philanthropist and former multimedia product developer and manager at Microsoft. She has consistently been ranked as one of the world’s most powerful women by Forbes.  Her quote is, “A woman with a voice is, by definition, a strong woman.”

Day 10

Hillary Clinton, an American politician and diplomat who served as the 67th United States secretary of state in 2009-2013, as a United States senator representing New York from 2001 to 2009, and as the first lady of the United States as the wife of President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. She also become the first woman to win a presidential nomination by a major U.S. political party in 2016; winning the popular vote. Her quote is, “Never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance in the world to pursue your dreams.”

Day 11

Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani female education activist and the winner for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. Awarded when she was 17, she is the world’s youngest to win. Her quote is, “I raise up my voice—not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard…We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.”

Day 12

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in 2020. Her quote is, “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

Day 13

Serena Williams, an American professional tennis player. Considered among the greatest tennis players of all time. Her quote is, “With a defeat, when you lose, you get up, you make it better, you try again. That’s what I do in life, when I get down, when I get sick, I don’t want to just stop. I keep going and I try to do more. Everyone always says never give up but you really have to take that to heart and really do never definitely give up. Keep trying.”

Day 14

Ruth Gordon, an American actress, screenwriter, and playwright. Her quote is, “Courage is like a muscle. We strengthen it by use.”

Day 15

Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person to win a Nobel Prize twice, and the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two scientific fields. Her quote is, “Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.”

Day 16

Vera Wang, a fashion designer. Her quote is, “Success isn’t about the end result, it’s about what you learn along the way.”

Day 17

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, an American politician and activist. She has served as the U.S. representative since 2019. Her quote is, “They’ll tell you you’re too loud – that you need to wait your turn and ask the right people for permission. Do it anyway.”

Day 18

Maya Angelou, a poet, storyteller, activist, and autobiographer. Her quote is, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Day 19

Helen Keller, an author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer. Her quote is, “When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.”

Day 20

Meghan Markle, an American member of the British royal family and former actress. Her quote is, “Women don’t need to find a voice, they have a voice, and they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.”

Day 21

Judy Garland, an American actress and singer. Her quote is, “Be a first-rate version of yourself, not a second-rate version of someone else.”

Day 22

Alice Walker, an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and social activist. In 1982, she became the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Her quote is, “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

Day 23

Brene Brown, an American professor, lecturer, author, and podcast host. Her quote is, “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it.”
